I'd read on some other sites that storing ECs in the little tri-fold binders soon grows tiresome for all but the most casual of collectors. I reached that stage fairly quickly, both because of quantity and because it's difficult to display them in sets or specializations without a bunch of those tri-folds.

So, I ordered and received via Amazon a box of 100 archival-quality, 20-pocket, top-loading storage pages for a three-ring binder. (Got it for $22 with shipping by the way, a real value compared to buying tri-fold books.)

But, as I feared, "naked" ECs easily fall out of their pockets when the pages are turned upside down. Therefore, I'd appreciate hearing how others deal with this? I don't plan to turn the binder upside down, but obviously, all it would take it dropping it once and some squishies would fly out.

I like the idea of having them loose inside the pockets, so I suppose I could place hold the pocket opening closed with some transparent tape. Just don't like the idea of that tape getting gummy or something over time.

I know 2x2 cardboard EC holders are available that, stapled shut, would sit securely within each pocket. I'm not sold on that idea, though; just seems like it will add a lot of bulk to the binder as well as another layer of plastic to peer through when examining an EC.

Just thought I'd post this challenge here in case anyone wanders by and cares to offer some insight. Thanks!

The little tri-fold books are definitley not the best option. Besides being expenisve and having a low capacity, some are made with PVC, which can cause a green/blue slime on your elongateds with age.

Most of us use the 3 ring binders with the 20-pocket pages. I would also be comfortable saying that the majority of us do use the staple-close 2x2 cardboard holders. They're cheap, secure, and won't let the ECs slide around, fall out, or grow the PVC slime.

They are a bit thick, but the thickness holds them in the pages, and you can still fit upwards of 15 pages in a 1 inch binder.

As an alternative, I know Sandy Marxen (former TEC News Editor) and a few others, use non-PVC coin flips (all plastic) in their 20-packet pages. Sandy puts the elongated in one pocket, a little info card in the other, folds in half, and inserts into the 20-pocket page.

Thanks for the informative reply! I've got my box of 20-pocket pages and binder, but haven't inserted any coins yet because I'm stuck on this stupid problem...

But the 2x2 holders appear to be the answer. Are those available in an EC (elongated oval) format? Or do people just use round coin holders? Seems like I saw the former but, of course, now that I want to find 'em, I can't.

Here are a bunch of links to online stores that sell the elongated 2x2s. Shop around because based on quantities and shipping, some places can give you a better price.

Hey, thanks very much for the links. Nice to know I'm not crazy and imagining things... this time! Whistle

This is definitely the way to go, once I find what I need at a decent price. The range between prices for 100 is wild.

Got my elongated 2x2 flips today; hooray!

Can't wait to start inserting my squishies in 'em so I can then insert 'em in my 20-pocket binder pages, and then insert those into a binder, that lived in the house that Jack built.

Please forgive this total-noob question, but how are those things typically fastened shut? Staples? Is one at the bottom enough, or two along the sides as well? If the latter, I'm sure I don't have enough staples d'oh!
